TRAMA : Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler), ingegnere meccanico della CIA, devoto padre di famiglia e cittadino modello, ha deciso di abbandonare il suo lavoro per dedicarsi alla famiglia. Una sera, due malviventi lo aggrediscono uccidendo davanti ai suoi occhi la moglie e la figlia. Nonostante Clyde li abbia visti, riconosciuti e denunciati, il processo non avrà mai luogo, perché l'ambizioso procuratore distrettuale di Philadelphia, Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), patteggia per una pena più leggera con l'avvocato difensore e il peggiore dei due criminali viene rilasciato. Tradito dal sistema giudiziario nel quale credeva, Clyde decide di vendicarsi della grave ingiustizia facendola pagare a chiunque abbia partecipato a quell'accordo.
